Taiwan's e-invoice system is a gift to anyone tracking spending: every item, quantity and price is already in the invoice. Here's how to set up a carrier barcode, get invoices into the app, and improve your odds in the prize draw.
QR Code |

In Taiwan, cards like EasyCard, iCash, bank cards and shop loyalty cards are collectively called carriers. Since invoices went electronic, paying with a carrier lets you claim the invoice straight to the Ministry of Finance cloud instead of taking a paper slip.
The problem is that most people carry several. So the Ministry introduced a universal carrier: the mobile barcode. Apply once, then show the same barcode at any shop that issues e-invoices, and every invoice ends up in one place.
You apply on the Ministry's side, not in the app. Go to the Ministry of Finance E-Invoice Platform (searching that name will find it) and do three things:
Once that's done, enter the barcode under "carrier barcode" in the app's settings, and show it when you pay.
The Ministry occasionally changes its platform and its steps; treat their published instructions as authoritative.
| Method | When to use it | How |
|---|---|---|
| Scan the QR code | You have the paper e-invoice in hand | Choose "scan invoice" in the app and point at the QR code |
| Import the summary CSV | Invoices are already in your carrier's cloud | Download the monthly consumption CSV from the Ministry's platform, then import it in the app |
Both recognise the store and the line items and file them for you. On import, invoice numbers you already have are skipped, so importing the same file twice won't create duplicates.
A single supermarket run gives you bananas, coffee, a book and an umbrella on one invoice. Logging it as one "supermarket 1,280" is fast, but those four belong to food, education and household categories. Merged into one line, your reports can't tell you where the money went.
Scan it and the invoice is split into separate items, each filed under its own category. That's exactly why the feature exists: the person buying twenty things with a child in tow has the least time to type them in one by one.
Yes. After scanning you get a review screen where you can set the category on each item before saving, and you can change it later by opening the entry.
Being honest: auto-categorising invoice items is much harder than auto-categorising speech. Shops write their own item names, and they are full of abbreviations, internal codes and strings nobody can decode, so we can only make a good guess. Two seconds glancing at the review screen beats hunting for the mistake in a report a month later.
An e-invoice usually carries two QR codes: the left one holds the invoice number, date and total; the right one holds the line items. When there are many items you have to catch the right-hand code too, and the app will show "scanned X of Y items" while any are missing.
If the right-hand code is printed too densely or is smudged and simply won't read, save the invoice with its number and total, then add the line items you care about by hand. Importing the monthly CSV won't do it for you: an invoice number you already have is skipped, so the import will not go back and complete an entry that already exists.
The trick isn't scanning more diligently, it's which kind of invoice you take. Cloud invoices stored on a carrier are eligible for cloud-invoice-only prizes on top of the regular uniform-invoice draw. The Ministry publishes the prize tiers and amounts each period, so check their announcement for current details.
Three habits, then:
On the app side, scanned invoices are checked against the draw automatically and you're notified, and you can see your winning records and total winnings. To be sure nothing is missed, record the invoice number on the entry.
